Preserving Music’s Forgotten Voices
The Niets Foundation is dedicated to restoring, preserving, and celebrating the brilliance of overlooked composers and culture-shapers whose artistry helped define musical history. For centuries, countless creators — especially artists of color — were excluded, miscredited, or erased from the historical record.
Their manuscripts disappeared, their contributions were diminished, and their stories nearly forgotten.
We envision a world where every culture’s musical heritage is honored, preserved, and accessible — where silenced voices are finally heard again, and the global story of music reflects the full spectrum of humanity that shaped it.
We are here to change that.
Our Mission
We research, digitize, restore, and reintroduce the works of composers whose contributions shaped our shared musical humanity. Through public-facing digital archives, educational resources, and community partnerships, we make these works accessible to scholars, musicians, educators, and young learners around the world.
Our work ensures that historically marginalized voices are studied, respected, and brought back into the center of cultural conversation.

The Niets Foundation is laying the groundwork for a global cultural archive — one that restores the stories, histories, manuscripts, and legacies of overlooked composers. Through historical research, manuscript recovery, biography reconstruction, curated digital collections, and collaborations with scholars and educators, we are bringing these voices back into public view.
In the years ahead, we will expand into archival preservation, community-sourced research, and new cross-cultural collections that illuminate the full richness of our shared musical heritage.
Partnership with Beret Publishing
The Niets Foundation works in close alignment with Beret Publishing, whose Beret Music division brings overlooked musical works back to life through newly commissioned recordings and recreated compositions.
Though we collaborate around shared historical subjects, the Niets Foundation and Beret Publishing operate as fully independent organizations — one nonprofit, one for-profit — united in a shared mission to honor forgotten brilliance.
Beret Publishing has generously granted the Niets Foundation limited-use access to select musical works for nonprofit, educational use. Organizations seeking access may submit an application through the Niets Foundation.
